Google+ Hangout: Social Tools

This hangout will discuss the topic of Social Tools. In this informative session, presented by the SEMPO Education Committee, they'll discuss the necessity of various types of tools, what can be done on a limited budget, what should be automated, and other tools related questions. So mark your calendars for April 21th 2pm EDT, and learn from those who create/use the tools. We'll cover these topics in an open question-and-answer format.

Travis Bernard, Senior Manager, Social Media


My name is Travis Bernard, and I run social media and audience development at TechCrunch. I previously worked across all AOL brands, but now my focus is growing traffic and audience for TechCrunch. Prior to joining at AOL, I worked with LM&O Advertising in Arlington, VA as the Social Media Analytics Manager for the National Guard account There I helped set up their social analytics program from scratch. I've also worked in the social media space for entertainment brands like Disney and NBC.


David Duncan, Digital Marketing Consultant


David is a Digital Marketing Consultant with WSI, he specializes in Social Selling education and on implementing Social Media Strategies to help clients use the digital channels to market their businesses online.

David speaks internationally on all aspects of internet marketing and the use of social technology tools for business development. His talks cover topics such as social selling and other specific social media subjects such as LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, and how these platforms can be used to enhance a company’s Social Media presence and Digital marketing footprint.

Increasingly the best sales reps are not just present on the social channels they are positioning themselves as thought leaders. As the popularity of inbound market increases companies will have to create more valuable content for their buyer personas and distribute that effectively to their target audience, social selling is a key enabler of this.

David is also a business advisor with ibd Business Advice and the Institute for Independent Business

He is the Area Representative for WSI in the South East of the UK.


Dennis Yu, CTO


Dennis Yu is the CTO of BlitzMetrics. He is an internationally recognized lecturer in Facebook marketing, having been featured in The Wall Street Journal, New York Times, LA Times, National Public Radio, TechCrunch, Fox News, and CBS Evening News. He is also a regular contributor for Adweek’s SocialTimes column.

Dennis has held leadership positions at Yahoo! and American Airlines. He studied Finance and Economics from Southern Methodist University and London School of Economics.

Besides being a Facebook data and ad geek, you can find him eating chicken wings or playing Ultimate Frisbee in a city near you.

Sam Hollingsworth, SEO Manager


Sam is responsible for the day-to-day SEO planning, execution, and performance for a variety of global digital accounts, and also monitors other non-paid efforts including social media and content creation. With social and search experience spanning nearly 10 years, Sam’s portfolio includes a number of enterprise-level clients as well as several small-to-medium-sized businesses bridging a variety of industries. A native of Saratoga Springs, New York, Sam is also a freelance writer for several publications covering mostly sports, specifically horse racing.


Dan Madden, Director, Social Global Strategic Accounts


Dan Madden is the Director of Social Global Strategic Accounts at Kenshoo. Dan brings more than 19 years of experience in Business Development and Marketing to Kenshoo, a Facebook Marketing Partner. Prior to joining Kenshoo's Social Global Strategic Accounts Team, Dan led the Spruce Media Strategic Partnerships efforts for 2 years, starting the licensing business offering. Before that he led adBrite's business development team for nearly five years. During that time, he spearheaded the real-timing bidding (RTB) initiative and made adBrite the first RTB inventory source in the display advertising industry. Dan was also an early employee at PayPal from 2000 to 2007 where he held a variety of business development roles including contracts with key partners during a merger, an IPO, and an acquisition by eBay. Before coming to Northern California to work in the Internet space, Dan spent a few years in marketing at Walt Disney's Buena Vista Pictures Marketing and Distribution in Burbank. Dan holds a B.A. in Marketing and International Business from Indiana University Bloomington.
