The Systems Operation Engineer is primarily responsible for the monitoring and maintenance of production systems. Other responsibilities include participation in capacity planning, allocation/forecasting of server usage, and development/production equipment specification, setup and equipment burn-in.


Major Job Accountabilities:
Monitor, maintain, and ensure performance of production web, application and database servers.
Discover and implement system & monitoring improvements.
Be willing to learn about web analytics and click-stream data warehousing techniques.
Be excited about working with high transaction per second HTTP & HTTPS server clusters, Very Large Databases (VLDB), and a well monitored network.
Ensure backups and disaster recovery plans are current.

Education/Experience:
· BS in Computer Science or equivalent level of experience.

· Hands on experience with Linux system administration

· Exposure to high-availability technologies (load balancing, Spanning Tree, heartbeat)



Knowledge/Technical Skills:

· 2+ yrs experience with UNIX/Linux OS and concepts (processes, cron, bash, top). Experience should include installation, tuning, backup, and monitoring of systems.

· 2+ yrs experience with RDBMS such as MySQL and/or PostgreSQL. However Oracle, Sybase, SQL Server is acceptable.

· Familiarity with any of the following is a plus: Java, SQL, perl, SNMP, syslog.


Abilities:
· Attention to detail and follow-through.

· Good troubleshooting skills

· Must have good oral and written communication skills

· Must be willing to work with remote offices
