SEMPO Volunteer Committees and Working Groups

SEMPO is a volunteer-supported organization, and we couldn’t exist without the generous leadership and assistance our volunteer members give us. The list below is our current roster of committees and their activities, and we add new working groups as needed for special projects or new directives.

Since it's launch in August 2004, SEMPO Asia has been helping the SEM industry in Japan grow and gain more recognition. SEMPO Asia’s interviews, comments and the findings of the Research on the State of SEM in Japan released in March 2005, the first SEM industry survey held in Japan, has been quoted many times by the media. SEMPO Asia will continue to provide useful information for the further growth of the industry via various upcoming events and its new website.

Current Initiatives:

B2B Committee The SEMPO B2B Committee's goals are to highlight the unique marketing opportunities search engine marketing provides to B2B companies. In 2005 / 2006, the committee will demonstrate the value of SEM for B2B's through case studies, articles and collaborative presentations.
Development Committee The Development Committee serves the needs of both Sponsors and Members. The goal of the Development Committee is to ensure SEMPO retains Sponsorship from appropriate leading companies in the industry to assist in funding organizational initiatives. Individuals on the Development Committee will work directly with our Sponsors on developing and implementing promotional and educational programs that help our sponsors reach SEMPO members and other marketing professionals through various forms of advertising, event sponsorship, research underwriting, etc.
Education Committee This committee is primarily responsible for editing and overseeing the resources published on the SEMPO website, as well as content review for webinars and other outreach/educational programs. We provide learning materials for events and other websites, and help to find new content that will support our overall mission.
Europe Working Group SEMPO Europe: join the European Global Working Group to actively support the growth of the Search Engine Marketing industry in your country!
Global Committee Sempo's Global Committee aims at the growth of the Search Engine Marketing industry internationally, by providing support to the local existing (Europe, UK, Asia) and future (Americas) macro-regional Global Working Groups.
In-House The In-House Search Committee is focused on delivering on the needs of in-house search engine marketers. The Committee was launched in March 2006 and is currently seeking ambitious volunteers.
Marketing Committee The focus of this committee is to help increase membership for SEMPO as well as to promote SEMPO worldwide. As a member, you'll be asked to assist with the following activities: brainstorming sessions, monthly meetings, online webinars, online and offline advertising, managing search activity, SEMPO's website, trade show promotion, and other similar tasks.
Membership Committee The Membership Committee is tasked with ensuring that the SEMPO membership is heard and that the activities or the organization stay aligned to the wishes of the members. Also, to make sure that specific member issues are addressed promptly as they arise.
Metrics and Standards This committee is responsible for the development of standards and metrics to simplify the processes of media planning (click availabilities), creative development, campaign trafficking (submission sheets / bulk uploading), and data transfer to make search advertising more efficient. The committee works closely with other industry entities to collaborate on these standards and guidelines. Additionally, this committee is tasked with ensuring industry adoption and education.
Research Committee This committee is tasked with conducting primary research on the impact and importance of SEM as a marketing tool, as well as with engaging in research regarding search marketing issues. Our annual study tracks marketer opinions regarding search marketing, budget planning issues, and market evolution. The committee plans to continue conducting primary research and release research to the press, industry analysts, and the investment community as well as compiling secondary research that relates to search engine marketing.
UK Working Group This committee aims to increase advertiser awareness of the importance and complexity of search engine marketing as well as promote best practice amongst search marketers, specifically within the UK marketplace. As a committee member you will be asked to attend regular meetings, assist with online and offline events, liaise with the leading search engines on joint educational projects, and take part in debates on the big issues facing search engine marketing in the UK.
