SEMPO Committees, Working Groups, and Task Forces
SEMPO is a volunteer-supported organization, and we couldn’t exist without the generous
leadership and assistance our volunteer members give us. The list below is our current roster of committees
and their activities, and we add new working groups as needed for special projects or new directives.

| Asia Committee |
Since its launch in August 2004, SEMPO Asia has been helping the SEM industry in Asia, especially in Japan, to grow and gain more recognition. SEMPO Asia’s interviews, comments and the findings of the Research on the State of SEM in Japan released in March 2005, the first SEM industry survey held in Japan, has been quoted many times by the media. SEMPO Asia is now making efforts to grow SEMPO in other parts of Aisa such as China and India, and will continue to provide useful information for the further growth of the industry via various upcoming events and its new website. |
| Canada Working Group |
SEMPO Canada is a SEMPO Working Group founded in November 2006 by Ken Jurina & Alexandre Brabant, which focuses on improving the growth, awareness and understanding search engine optimization and marketing and how it uniquely pertains and is of relevance to Canadians worldwide across any sector, vertical or industry. SEMPO Canada will play the integral role of educating on SEO/SEM through attendance of, exhibiting and presenting at numerous conferences, seminars and tradeshows throughout Canada. These events will be attended by SEMPO Canada WG members with the intention of recruiting further members to SEMPO as well as SEMPO Canada.
Since November 2006 SEMPO Canada members have made three educational presentations at the University of Alberta, represented SEMPO Canada at the Canadian Information Processing Society annual conference as well as Bar Camp in Vancouver, been interviewed on CBC Radio, and presented at the Government of Canada Business Link Centre to multiple Canadian cities via video conference. By Dec 31/06 SEMPO Canada intends on having a modest website complete with blog (consistent with the brand of SEMPO.org), grow membership to 12 members, and present at additional educational institutions and seminars.
In early 2007 SEMPO Canada looks to promote SEMPO and the SEMPO Canada WG through it’s involvement specifically with the Toronto SES conference where SEMPO Canada intends on exhibiting at a manned booth, presenting on panels and co-sponsoring a wine and cheese event with support from corporate sponsors and SEMPO.org. |

| Development Committee |
The Development Committee serves the needs of both Sponsors and Members. The goal of the Development Committee is to ensure SEMPO retains Sponsorship from appropriate leading companies in the industry to assist in funding organizational initiatives. Individuals on the Development Committee will work directly with our Sponsors on developing and implementing promotional and educational programs that help our sponsors reach SEMPO members and other marketing professionals through various forms of advertising, event sponsorship, research underwriting, etc. |
| Education Committee |
This committee is primarily responsible for editing and overseeing the resources published on the SEMPO website, as well as content review for webinars and other outreach/educational programs. We provide learning materials for events and other websites, and help to find new content that will support our overall mission. |
| Emerging Technologies Committee |
The Emerging Technologies committee creates a forum for SEMPO members to share information about search as it relates to new platforms like mobile, voice and interactive television.
A source of research, case studies and best practices it provides SEMPO members with the resources needed to develop successful Paid and NSO strategies within emerging mediums.
Open to participation from all members, the Emerging Technologies committee is dedicated to introducing benefits of SEMPO membership to companies outside the traditional search community and to raising awareness of the organization as forward thinking, technically
progressive group. |

SEMPO Europe: join the European Global Working Group to actively support the growth of the Search Engine Marketing industry in your country! |

Sempo's Global Committee aims at the growth of the Search Engine Marketing industry internationally, by providing support to the local existing (Europe, UK, Asia) and future (Americas) macro-regional Global Working Groups. |
| In-House Committee |
From pitching the idea for In-House search marketing support to hiring the right people, the In-House SEM Committee is tasked with providing members with a full range of options and ideas. Whether your needs are as simple as learning what skills to look for when hiring for a Pay Per Click position, or as complex as building an entire department from the ground up, our goal is to offer clear and detailed information to make it easier. |
| Latino Working Group |
Sempo Latino is a Sempo Working Group created with the primary scope of promoting the growth of the search industry across the Latin worldwide market. Just launched in August 2006, the Working Group is a very active task force focused on educating the search marketing industry about the differences within the Latino markets - in terms of culture, language, and consumer search behavior (in Latin America, US, and worldwide). Several educational Latino projects are already on their way: SEM webinars in Spanish, Spanish and Portuguese content and resources on the Sempo website, a Latino search marketing blog, cross-Committee projects with other Sempo Committees and Working Groups to explore the Latino potential of each search vertical, and more. Join us to help grow the Latino market worldwide, join Sempo Latino! |

The focus of this committee is to help increase membership for SEMPO as well as to promote SEMPO worldwide. As a member, you'll be asked to assist with the following activities: brainstorming sessions, monthly meetings, online webinars, online and offline advertising, managing search activity, SEMPO's website, trade show promotion, and other similar tasks. |

| Metrics and Standards Task Force |
The Mission of this Task Force is to develop a set of standards and guidelines specific to Search Marketing. By creating a common vernacular, measurement and protocols, the industry will be more efficient in its ability to audit and measure the effectiveness of search marketing. The task force works diligently to collaborate with other online governing bodies to grow global awareness of these standards. Additionally, this committee is tasked with ensuring industry adoption and education. |
| New York Working Group |

| Research Committee |
This committee is tasked with conducting primary research on the impact and importance of SEM as a marketing tool, as well as with engaging in research regarding search marketing issues. Our annual study tracks marketer opinions regarding search marketing, market sizing and budget planning issues, and market evolution. The committee plans to continue conducting primary research and release research to the press, industry analysts, and the investment community as well as compiling secondary research that relates to Search Engine Marketing. In the area of secondary research, a new initiative is to provide independent review, aggregation and dissemination of related research undertaken both by our members and by related parties. |
| SEMPO Central Eastern Europe (CEE) |
SEMPO CEE was created to increase awareness of SEMPO and help promote search industry in the Central and Eastern European markets. The commitment is to attract members who are not specialized in search marketing and to raise the position of search marketing in media mix.
Initiatives:
* SEMPO CEE representation at local largest conferences via speaking and partnership
* Start SEMPO.CEE blog as a forum to discuss CEE search marketing issues |

SEMPO India is established as a sub group of Asia Working Group to focus the rapidly growing India market. Our goal is to create a better visibility of SEMPO in India market through events and other activities, and to provide the local information to SEMPO members. |
| SEMPO Institute Committee |
This Task Force is a sub- group of the Education Committee, responsible for developing and launching the SEMPO SEM Training Institue™. The mission of the SEMPO SEM Training Institute™ is three fold: 1) to teach standardized, peer reviewed SEM strategies, techniques, and best practices, 2) to provide Courses that establish a benchmark of expertise for SEM professionals worldwide, and 3) to increase the quality and availability of SEM professionals and employees for hiring needs. |

This group focuses on Italian Search Marketing. Its goal is to interact with the growing number of small and medium enterprises that are a greater part of the Italian economy, as well as the large companies and industry players who make its backbone.

| UK Working Group |
This committee aims to increase advertiser awareness of the importance and complexity of search engine marketing as well as promote best practice amongst search marketers, specifically within the UK marketplace. As a committee member you will be asked to attend regular meetings, assist with online and offline events, liaise with the leading search engines on joint educational projects, and take part in debates on the big issues facing search engine marketing in the UK. |
